St Ives Win at last!

Many times this season St Ives 1XV have come close to winning, but the victory has always eluded them, Saturdays performance vanquished these memories as St Ives won by a large margin.

St Ives entertained Huntingdon 2XV at Somersham Road in the return leg of this local derby, Huntingdon having taken the honours by 1 point earlier in the season at Hinchingbrooke School. Today St Ives were desperate for revenge. St Ives were dominant in all areas of the field and enjoyed a fast paced game against a much larger Huntingdon pack. In the first half, playing down the slope, St Ives had the majority of possession and incisive running and clinical finishing gave the home side a large advantage going into the second half.

Huntingdon came out strongly in the second period but strong tackling and an efficient defence managed to restrict them to 2 tries and 1 conversion for their efforts. St Ives on the other hand were able to slice through the Huntingdon defence and despite spending the majority of the half in their own territory, continued to score regularly with fast paced counter attacks. St Ives try scorers were, Mickey Drake x2, Matt Lippard x2, Ollie Moorhouse, Bryan Richardson, Jason Price and Paul Ashbridge, with 5 conversions from the boot of Adam Clarke bring the final score to 50 - 12.

Rugby Union is now over at Somersham Road for the season, but Rugby League now begins with the St Ives Roosters opening their league campaign on May 6th at home vs. South Norfolk Saints. Support is always welcome!
