Biggleswade vs. St Ives 2's

St Ives seconds travelled to Biggleswade for a rematch against the thirds. Last time a dominant St Ives managed a 36 5 win. the story is different for the return leg. Biggleswade were bolstered by a cancelled 1st team fixture but this was not an excuse for a disappointing performance in stand in captain Paul Spencer's eyes.

The game started promisingly with perfect conditions for flowing rugby and St Ives found themselves camped out in their opponents 22 but with solid defence there was no way through. Some slack handling let Biggleswade back in and through hard work they managed to score under the posts and convert for 7! A restart after stern words saw a strong attack from St Ives and within five minutes James Cannon scored and a kick from Jack Blackley saw the scores levelled out.

But again St Ives went to sleep and let Biggleswade score more points with no reply and were left trailing at half time. A team talk from the skipper saw St Ives come out firing on all cylinders for the restart but soon ran out of fuel with no communication and some more slack play saw Biggleswade again being the top team of the day.

They scored some more (gifted) tries with the only reply coming from a strong attacking move from a Biggleswade penalty which saw Stuart Cornwell at 2 scoring under the posts. Jack was once again reliable with the boot and converted well.

There was a lot for the team to take home and commitment and teamwork were the lessons of the day. Hopefully being a one off due to an early kick off and Spencer hopes for a massive improvement for when Regular skipper Ollie returns next match.

Final Score: Biggleswade 42 St Ives 14
