St Ives 2's 14 - St Neots 24
On a hot summers day at Somersham Road St Ives started well against there local rivals St Neots with Flanker Jamie Noble scoring under the posts in the first 10mins; with born again Fly half Paul Spencer adding 2points with the conversion. St Neots hit back with 3 tries and 2 conversions, this didn't allow St Ives heads to go down and great loose play by Steve Parkes, Tim Lumley-Good and 'new hooker' Ian Parry, allowed St Ives to keep a steady control of the game.
The Second half saw a great defensive performance from both sides, and after a break from wing Ben Pinion allowed Captain Oliver Scott to score under the posts with Spencer once again on target with the boot. St Ives were metres away from scoring a winner after some great work from Centre Stuart Cornwell and wing forward Noble. St Neots scored a final try in the last minute to finish the home side off to leave the result 14-24. St Ives Captain, Scotty was pleased with how his team played and was looking forward to the first league game of the season, away to Thorney next weekend, saying "Our performance can only get better".
