Kempston 2's 48 vs. St Ives 2's 27

St Ives travelled to Kempston with a strong squad, hoping to record their first league victory of the season, unfortunately this did not happen.

St Ives started brightly looking after there own ball and going forward in numbers, after pulling the Kempston pack into the middle of the field scrum half Dan Fry shipped the ball out to St Ives utility back Ollie Moorhouse who was fresh from university and playing at Fly Half to beat his defender and score in the corner. The St Ives pack carried on the good work with some great loose play throughout the whole game from Andy Dolby, Gary Fleming, Mickey Blackley and some bursting runs by Prop Pete Wood-Eeles that kept the ball alive; this enabled Fry to pop the ball out to winger Pete Coleman who took his defender and created a gap for Mark Emerson to score, with Dan Fry adding the only conversion of the game for St Ives.

St Ives  had a 12-0 lead when Kempston started to play, with some stupid penalties given away noticeably by the Captain Oliver Scott for retaliating about 10mins after an  incident had happened and finished, this lead to Kempston's first try under the posts. St Ives went to sleep and with missed tackles Kempston scored 3 more tries and conversion in the second half to take the score to 22-12. Just before half time Ollie Moorhouse gave St Ives a bit of hope by scoring a fantastic solo try to make the score 22-17 at half time.

St Ives came out of the blocks straight away into the second half by dominating the first 10mins. After some good loose play by the pack which kept driving Kempston back to their own try line Tim Lumley-Good popped up with the ball to score his first for the season. Lumley-Good put on an awesome display and his try was very well deserved, his awesome tackling and loose play earned him man of the match. But the Kempston turned up the volume and scored four more tries and 3 conversions which shocked St Ives these tries were due to some weak tackling by the away team. There was a noticeable performance in defence by Alec Campbell who marked his first game of the season with some big hits on his opposite number as well as some strong tackling at the back by full back and vice captain Ben Pinion. St Ives finished on a high with a Sexy looking cross kick by Moormouse creating a try for winger/Utility Andy Britton to score in the corner. The final score was 48-27 to Kempston.

St Ives Second team Captain Oliver Scott said after the game "The general basics of the game let us down today along with a few miss tackles, we played good spells of rugby for 5 or 10mins at a time, but we need to start playing 80 minutes worth of rugby. If we do the basics right we then have the pace and power to destroy some teams, we have to be on full form next Saturday when we play Westwood at home"
