St Ives Old Bulls vs. Thorney

St Ives Old Bulls travelled to Thorney at the weekend and recorded one of the best performances of the season although not haveing it all their own way.

St Ives certainly started the brighter and ended the first quarter two tries up, scored by Jonty Jones and Nigel Sweeney but then conceded two tries to make the half time score 14-12 to Thorney.

The second half began well for St Ives with the pack making numerous short breaks and retaining good structure and possession, it only looked a matter of time before they would score. They could not, however, turn pressure into points and Thorney against the run of play scored a converted try making the
score now 21 -12.

St Ives response was positive with the pack continuing to dominate the loose play with prop Pete Hammond and hooker Gez Gilbert enjoying ball in hand and continually breaking the gain line. The first of four tries came from centre Vinnie Woodward although at this point St Ives were still behind despite dominating play.

The game was sealed by three late tries from Tom Beatty, Gez Gilbert and Danny Tuckwood with Three conversions by Dusty Miller making the final score 36 -21 To St Ives Old Bulls.
