St Ives Old Bulls vs. Kettering 5ths – 11th December 2004
Old Bulls went away and played a predominantly younger Kettering 5ths, losing narrowly 10-7 after 2 missed penalty kicks one by Chris Ford and the other by new member Nigel Kemp who played at full back and scored St Ives only try.
St Ives destroyed the Kettering Scrum with new front row convert Mick Purver having a blinder of a game at tighthead, whilst new hooker Simon Fry's chucking in at the lineouts left a lot to be desired, his hooking was without fault, taking 6 balls against the head.
Andy Frear debuted at openside and had a storming game, covering the field like a nasty rash.
It was good to get a run out after scared opposition calling off the last three games.
Hopefully next week will see the return of a sober Jeremiah Clotte bringing a pair of sticky gloves with him.
The Old Bulls look forward to the return of several injured and unavailable players after Christmas and the ensuing selection problems that it entails.
