St. Ives Under 14s 5 - Southwold Under 14s 41

A bright and sunny Easter Sunday morning saw St. Ives under 14s play host to their counterparts from Southwold RFC who were on tour in the area. Both teams met up at Northampton on Good Friday evening to enjoy the Northampton - Leicester East Midlands derby. With several home team players unavailable
this weekend, the junior game was more of a one-sided affair.

Played in great spirit and in front of a large and vocal crowd of supporters from both clubs, the visitors used their well-drilled backs to good effect and strong running saw several scores in the first twenty minute period. However, Saints never gave up the fight and in the second period pushed Southwold hard, with the visitors' defence just managing to hold out. In the final period the game was more evenly matched, with a number of changes being made. Saints consolation score came from a well-worked move, with Liam Cook going over in the corner.

The large crowd of family and friends from both sides were then treated to lunch and Easter Eggs to round off a good days sport.

Pictured are the two teams plus Sean Cashman (Southwold) presenting the 'Friendship Potty' to Tony Howard (St. Ives). The two club will now play for this fine trophy on an annual basis.
