ST IVES UNDER 13's TOUR TO NORFOLK

22 Players from St Ives under 13 squad travelled to Norfolk on their annual tour. They would be playing against West Norfolk based in Kings Lynn on the Saturday and on Sunday they would face Holt before returning home.

St Ives started slowly in their first game allowing a big and well organised West Norfolk side to take control, they applied the pressure on a shell shocked St Ives side using their back line to full effect eventually resulting in a try in the corner from their right wing. St Ives tackled well to keep West Norfolk at bay and applied a little of their own pressure on the home teams line just before half time. In the second half St Ives started well running the ball through the forwards but again West Norfolk tackled well and on a number of occasions stopped St Ives just short of the line. The home side came back at St Ives and increased their score with a converted try. St Ives never gave up a well worked forwards move allowed Harry Martin to go over in the corner to set up an exciting finally. The final score was West Norfolk 12 - St Ives 5

After a stay over in Norwich the boys were all set for their match against Holt, this time St Ives were up for the game right from the start, they took control in the Rucks and mauls winning plenty of possession for the half backs to use the ball sensibly. Holt surprised St Ives by taking an early lead by scoring in the corner. St Ives responded well and drove on towards the Holts try line, the first try came from some very strong running by Jake Peattie to break through several tackles to score in the corner. Jake continued to be the thorn in Holts side, they struggled to cope with his direct style of running and strength out of the tackle. On the few occasions Holt ventured into our half Dan Malem would pin them back with some very good tactical kicking into the corner. The pressure never stopped in the second half with some great combination play from both forwards and backs allowing St Ives to increase their lead further. St Ives started to tire towards the end which allowed Holt a glimmer of hope after they scored via their forwards in the corner. All of this was to no avail as St Ives tackled bravely to finish the game 39 - 10 winners. Tries scorers: Jake Peattie x4, Dale ' Pastie' Taylor and Harry Martin x2. Conversions Jack Topham x2.

An excellent tour was had by all, the boys played very well over the two days against what turned out to be very tough and well organised opposition. The behaviour of the boys over the period was exceptional as usual and a pleasure to be with. A big thank you to all players and parents for all their help over this season and look forward to next year.
