A rescheduled County Cup match saw St Ives U16s run out at Hinchingbrooke School for their away fixture versus Huntingdon. The Bulls were keen to make their mark early on in the game, and took the first try just after the ten minute mark following a very dominant scrum, converted confidently. But Stags were not going to let it go all our way, and soon answered with a converted try of their own after some disappointing play from St Ives, giving away multiple penalties for offside. The match then was very even, with both teams making good attacking plays, but also defending strongly. A line out to St Ives inside the Stags 22 should have led to something, but with Stags intercepting the ball and some missed tackles from St Ives, Stags got their second try, converted, at 26 minutes. St Ives tidied themselves up and worked very well as a team, with some quick handling to get us within 10 metres, then a brilliant side step and we were through for our second converted try. Fantastic defence from St Ives and a potential Stags third try was stopped by a powerful tackle into touch, then the whistle for the end of the half. Half time, at 14 all, it was all to play for in the second half.

Stags took first points in the second half with a nice forwards drive over from a line out after some great kicking to get them to within 5 metres of the try line, converted nicely. St Ives were then on the attack from the restart, but a missed pass allowed Stags to run in their second try of the half, but this time the conversion rebounded from the post. The Bulls got themselves fired up and responded well with some great work from the forwards at the rucks, quick ball out to the backs for some sprinting runs, and working well to keep possession. Within 10 meters of their try line Stags gave away a penalty for a high tackle, but the quick tap and go from St Ives then sprint over the line was disallowed by the ref as he ruled the tap and go was not from in front of him. So St Ives re-took the penalty and this time the forwards made some heavy carries, with the try coming at 19 minutes, converted well. Stags responded with some great play but the St Ives defence was solid and Stags could not find a way through. With just minutes to go, the St Ives players were on the attack again, and after using the wing to make great progress, the ball came back to the forwards to do the heavy lifting, with a fantastic charge through the Stags defence in the last minute of the match for a St Ives try. The final whistle would be blown after the conversion. The score was 26-26...the St Ives kicker stepped up and slotted the ball straight through the posts for the 2 points. Final score to this nail-biting match: 26-28 for the St Ives win!
