St Ives came out of the blocks from the first whistle. Retrieving the kick off, good phase play and inter passing opened up Dunstablians, only to see the attack in the oppositions 22 come to a halt.
The majority of the first half remained scoreless with both sides struggling with decisions.
Ives finally got over the line with Rees Burns finishing off some good driving play with a powerful burst to go over.
Dunstablians had an odd passage of play, but never really threatened the Ives line. To turn around 5-3 up was OK for the visitors, but did not reflect their dominance.
The players had words at half time, they knew how to fix the problem. Then oddly the first 10 mins of the 2nd half they switched off and did nothing! Dunstablians scored 2 quick tries out of the blue. The jolt made Ives up their game.
Alex Henly was put into space by good hands from the backs, to score from 45 odd metres. Rees Burns having a great game barrelling people for fun, again scored to bring the game level.
Coach Humphreys commented, “Everyone is disappointed to come away with a draw.
“At times our core skills went missing. Don’t get me wrong, there where some great individual performances. If we string the individual and team performance together it will be interesting to see where this team can go. That’s their challenge.”
