Saints Fall Short

St. Ives 1 v 2 Rushden

Up next for the Blues were Rushden and although St. Ives started, they were driven back, but Eamon Byrne was able to stop the charge, with Jacob getting the ball back to the centre. Zac Ling was able to break clear, but turnover ball at the breakdown enabled Rushden to ship the ball out and break down the wing to open the scoring. Further pressure from Rushden meant it was difficult for St. Ives to escape their clutches as the half drew to a close. HT: 0 – 1

Tommy McCarthy fed Charlie and he made ground deep into the Rushden half, but more loose play at the breakdown, provided an opportunity for Rushden as they broke through again to double the lead. St. Ives hit back, and created some pressure of their own, and had Rushden in trouble, but a high tackle eased this and Rushden cleared. However, Cullan was on hand to win the ball back. This was followed by a break from Thomas who fed Cullan who was able to work his way over. St. Ives continued to press, and it seemed that the leveling score was on its way, but the Blues were beaten by the final whistle.
