2. Age Group Structure

To run a successful age group, the following structure is recommended.
These are specified as roles and do not need to be individuals assigned to each, but it does make things easier!
All volunteers directly associated with the children must be DBS checked (check facilitated by the club) and should attend a Play it Safe course
Lead Coach
Responsible for the planning and running of sessions

  • The club will support any education requested by the lead coach to further their coaching abilities. The RFU hosts numerous coaching courses and CPD activities which can be found on GMS and are regularly communicated by the coaching coordinator.

Assistant coaches
Responsible for aiding and assisting the lead coach as appropriate.
  • The club will also assist with the development of assistant coaches
  • Coaches are part of the wider coaching group at St Ives and may be called upon for assistance with other age groups (depending on availability)

Team manager
Responsible for:
  • communication of fixtures/training to the group
  • communication of club requirements (registration management - via GMS/subs of players/volunteer duties)
  • register management of players and notification of first aider allocation

First Aider
Responsible for first aid cover of the age group and injury reporting (We must have 1 qualified first aider attending each training session/match).
Safeguarding
Following all safeguarding guidelines as communicated by club safeguarding officers.
Volunteer Roles off field
As a volunteer run club, we rely upon the good will of our members to assist with the running of activities. We organise a rota across the age groups to ensure that key areas have an allocation each Sunday there are teams at home.
These include:
  • Car Parking – at least 2 volunteers required to Marshall our limited car parking space to ensure efficient parking by our visitors.
  • Kitchen – recommended 2-3 volunteers available in the kitchen to provide the preparation and serving of tea/coffee/bacon rolls and the provision of matchday hot dogs when we are hosting a match.
